ARC WELDING 6G (SMAW) Course In Rawalpindi

About SMAW  Welding / ARC Welding

Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), also known as stick welding, is a welding process that uses a consumable electrode coated in flux to join metals. The electrode is made of a metal core wire that conducts the electric current and is covered in a flux coating that protects the weld from atmospheric contamination.

SMAW welding is a popular and versatile welding method used in many industries, including construction, manufacturing, and repair work. It is particularly useful for welding thick materials and is often used for steel structures, pipelines, and heavy machinery.

One of the advantages of SMAW welding is that it can be used in a variety of positions, including flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions. This makes it a versatile welding method that can be used for a wide range of applications.

SMAW welding is also relatively simple and easy to learn, which makes it a popular choice for beginners. However, it does require some skill and experience to produce high-quality welds.

SMAW Welding Course Outline:

Welding Safety: This module covers the importance of safety in welding and the hazards associated with welding. It also covers personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices.

Welding Procedures: This module covers the different welding procedures used in SMAW welding, including flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead welding. It also covers the different types of joints used in welding, such as butt joints, lap joints, and T-joints.

Use of Welding Tools and Equipment: This module covers the different types of welding tools and equipment used in SMAW welding, including welding machines, electrode holders, chipping hammers, wire brushes, and clamps.

Connection of Welding Plants: This module covers the process of connecting welding plants, including selecting the appropriate cables and connectors and ensuring proper grounding.

Types of Welding Electrodes: This module covers the different types of welding electrodes used in SMAW welding, including their composition, classification, and application.

Types of Base Metals: This module covers the different types of base metals used in welding, including mild steel, Carbon steel. It also covers their properties and characteristics.

Welding Tips and Techniques for SMAW Welding: This module covers the different welding techniques used in SMAW welding, including drag technique, push technique, and circular technique. It also covers the importance of maintaining the correct arc length and angle.

At AGT Institute, we provide comprehensive training in SMAW welding, which includes practice in all positions, from 1G to 6G. Our students are trained to master the 6G welding position, which covers almost all positions, including overhead, vertical, and horizontal. By providing training in the 6G welding position, we equip our students with the skills and knowledge required to become proficient welders in all positions, enhancing their employability and career prospects.

Pipe Welding: This module covers the techniques used for welding pipes, including preparing the pipe ends, fitting the pipes together, and welding them using the appropriate welding technique.

Welding Defects and Their Solutions: This module covers the common welding defects that can occur in SMAW welding, such as porosity, undercutting, and slag inclusions. It also covers the solutions to these defects.

Pipe Beveling: This module covers the process of beveling pipe ends in preparation for welding, including the different types of bevels and the tools used to create them.

Pipe Tagging Techniques: In our SMAW Welding Course, we cover the important technique of Pipe Tagging, which involves using a piece of cleat to join two pieces of pipe at a specific distance, usually 2mm or 3mm apart. This technique is essential for maintaining the correct distance between the pipes during the welding process, particularly for the root pass. By using Pipe Tagging, our students learn how to ensure the correct alignment and spacing of pipes, which is critical for producing high-quality welds that meet industry standards.

Installation of Practice or Test Piece on Welding Booth: This module covers the process of setting up a practice or test piece in a welding booth for students to practice their welding skills.

Root Pass Process and Techniques: This module covers the process of making the root pass in a weld joint, including the technique used to achieve good penetration and proper fusion.

Hot Pass Process and Techniques: This module covers the process of making the hot pass in a weld joint, including the technique used to ensure proper fusion.

Filling Process and Techniques: This module covers the process of making the filling pass in a weld joint, including the technique used to ensure proper bead shape and penetration.

Capping Process and Techniques: This module covers the process of making the final capping pass in a weld joint, including the technique used to achieve a smooth and uniform weld.

Visual Inspection After Completing of Welding Procedure: This module covers the process of visually inspecting the weld joint after completing the welding procedure to ensure that it meets the required standards.

Overall, this SMAW welding course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the SMAW welding process, from safety and equipment to welding techniques and visual inspection.
